Re: High death rate on Indian Railways
How is it even allowed to have hundreds of people climbing up onto carriage roofs? Are there no police or security personnel on Indian stations? I daresay they have rules, regulations, laws, etc. I guess you can't legislate common sense. Darwin awards, anyone?

Horrendous statistics, but then there's no health and safety regulations enforced. Same in factories, and that's one reason why UK manufacturing doesn't stand a chance against countries like India.

It seems to me that the UK regulations with regard to health and safety are, in principle, very good. However, there should still be an expectation that people demonstrate basic commonsense, and that is missing. The insurance industry and legal process should recognise this and stop allowing and paying out claims where commonsense has not been applied.

To quote the rather conrovercial Jeremy Clarkson: ' In India it's not when your father gets home you'll be in trouble, it's if your father gets home you'll be in trouble
The roads in India are awful too
