Direction of travel?

Does anyone know about direction of travel on the main line, as 34067 Tangmere came all the way from Bury to York yesterday tender first pulling the support coach.

Do you mean "Can it travel on the mainline in reverse, ie tender first?"
Yes but generally at a reduced speed.
