I've seen an image of a locomotive similar to the ES1 in a European museum, but I don't know if this is the same one

Yes, that’s an interesting photo. Even more interesting is the locomotive in the background – 2 D 2 no. 5522 (old number E522) of a class (2D2 5500 1st series) built for the PO Midi railway from 1933 for the 1500 V main line electrification from Paris Gare d'Austerlitz. Later batches were capable of 87 MPH.
