Re: 9F EVENING STAR
Ay up, Wootang!
Yes, the Star was indeed shedded at 82F (Bath Green Park), on loan from Cardiff I believe although she did carry the 82F 'plate. She also came back again in '63 after overhaul at Eastleigh with the full width footstep under the smokebox door and green cylinders.
As for the Pines, yes it was a fixed rake although the make up of the set varied over the years. For example, in 1952 the Pines got the ex-Royal Scot set which gave it an almost obscenely tidy appearance with a full set of carmine and cream Stanier coaches! Over the years, various vehicles were replaced until the Pines started to get Mk1s in the mid-50s. Strengtheners were added at various times as and when required.
Incidentally, I do wonder if there was an edict on the LMS that if two identically styled coaches were ever found coupled together in a rake, then steps must be taken to rectify this situation immediately!

Ay up Wootang.
The Ivo Peters " S & D in the '60s" has an excellent picture of the train re-starting near Cole in which every single coach can be identified as to type.
I'll get my magnifier. And a dribble tray.
