NYMR photo essay

Post by Archibald Sturrock »

First of all, thanks to those on this Forum who helped with advice for this trip.
I had hoped to see A4 Sir Nigel Gresley operating, but found when I arrived at Pickering that 80135 was on duty (1). Off we went towards Grosmont but were held at Levisham (2) to await the diesel-hauled replacement for Schools class Repton. This made us rather late arriving at Grosmont, and the guard kindly allowed me just 15 minutes to get to the shed and then back to the train to Pickering again. 3 quick pictures in the shed, including this, the best I could get of SNG (3), then back to the train just in time. As we left we passed Repton at the coaling stage (4) and at least two Deltics parked, but I would like to know which (5) as they were too close to see properly, then back to Pickering. As a finale I drove to the first level crossing out of Pickering to get a last look at 80135 (6). A sign on the farm gate warned of a thousand pound fine for leaving the gate open - but it stayed open despite several cars using it (not mine, though)!
A nice day out, although I was somewhat disappointed by not getting a good look (and photo) of SNG, and only a poor view of Repton. I will have to go again when there is an event scheduled!
PS I see in the preview that the pictures came out in the wrong order - never mind, I am sure that readers can figure them out!

Glad you had a reasonably good time at the NYMR. It's a shame you missed SNG he/she/it usually comes out most days but it just depends.

Hope you will come down again.

Regards
