Following recent correspondence in one of the magazines I have cause to confirm certain details of the operation of this train from 1965 onwards. I don't have a complete set of timetables but used to use this train to get home to Perth at weekends from Crewe 1965-8. I need to be sure that my memory is not playing tricks and in 1965 the loco was changed at Crewe from Electric to Steam, and later the through working to Perth was discontinued and one had to change at Carlisle, and later still Carstairs. Can anybody help.
The Carlisle-Perth train (8.25pm) was steam hauled until the withdrawal of steam on ScR usually by a Kingmoor Clan or Britannia or even a Black Five as I remember.
I've posted this thread on the LMS forum with no luck so far so maybe somebody from the east side can help?

Re: 1.30 pm Euston to Perth
I have recollections of the 8 25pm Carlisle-Perth in 1974/5 on the rare occassions I used it doing Derby - Stirling. Usually because of disruption further south and it was the only way home. A couple of Mk1s with a couple of parcels vans, electrically hauled to Mossend. The 1972 timetable has it at 20 33 fromn Carlisle offering a connection out of the 16 05 from Euston, calling at Lockerbie, Beattock, Carstairs (17 mins), Motherwell, coatbridge Central, Larbert, Stirling, Perth arr 00 24 with a connection into the overnight Inverness.

Hi Saint Johnstoun, i am an ex Crewe man,at the time you stipulate i was at South Shed, and what we called the Bungalow, where we signed on for Diesel and Electric Traction.the 8.25pm Perth was a double trip / lodge job for us, and more often than not was in charge of a Brittania which was our longest single engine and crew job in the latter days of steam. And yes it was lecky hauled Euston / Crewe. In September 1966 i moved up the Links i do believe Crewe men only went as far as Carlisle with a Diesel later on,what date this all changed i do not know, sorry i cannot help you As for the discontinuing of the service behond Carlisle. Re: 1.30 pm Euston to Perth
Thanks for that folks. I'm sure I remember the Britannia coming on at Crewe in 1965-6. It may be that the Carstairs change was so it connected with the train bound for Glasgow Central and that the train originated from Carlisle. No doubt in the fullness of time I will get it worked out. From what I remember it was usually a 26 or 27 from Carstairs.
