Sadly, no. Work is not likely to start for another couple of years and the projected completion is not until 2017 - but at least it is something to look forward to.

No doubt FGW will get new long distance trains as replacements for the HSTs but I'm not sure that new EMUs will be forthcoming to replace the Turbos or to replace ATW's motley fleet of DMUs for the Valleys. More like 'cascaded' 319s and 315s, I reckon. Very good news overall, though - who would have thought it possible thirty years ago?
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Whilst I understand the view that it would be nice to have new trains with the electrification, the key is to get the wires up. This is what happened to North Berwick and Leeds/Bradford Northwest area. Both wired but operated by even more tatty cast offs, but they got (will get) their new units in time.
