Disabled travellers from Nottingham to unmanned Bingham have travelled a further 14 miles to Grantham, then returning on the next stopping service back to Bingham!

I actually used to work the trains to WGC and my memories are necessarily vague but I think we had to advise people to do that.
I certainly can't imagine NR wanting people crossing the ECML on the level in a wheelchair !
Just had a look at this page http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/hat/details.html and there are in fact virtually no disabled access facilities at all at Hatfield.

Re: Hatfield down side stopping controversy.
Post-1970's resignalling, a 'Staff' 'white light' Barrow crossing (connecting the two platforms close to the footbridge, by crossing the Down Fast, Up Fast, and Up Slow) continued to exist. While it was there, quite probably platform staff would have been able to use that while escorting passengers disabled in certain ways off down trains to get to the up side and the station exit.
Not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the crossing's long gone now.
