Post by Bryan »

Just seen this photo on the Durham Mining Museum site.
Can anybody identify it and where it came from?

I have this as RS (Robert Stephenson) 1747 of 1867, an inside cylinder 0-6-0 that the Seaton Delaval Coal Co Ltd brought from the North British Railway in February 1908. It was NBR 658. Seaton Delaval numbered it No 5.

When Seaton Delaval amalgamated with Cramlington Coal Ltd in 1929 to form Hartley Main Collieries, it became No 3 in the combined fleet. It survived to become an NCB loco and wasn't scrapped until February 1959.

Well done Andy i was about to post that i would id the loco Saturday when im home for the Weekend but you beat me to it, the coal companys in the NE had a fascinating array of pre grouping locos from all over the country that if they had lasted a few more years would have given us some interesting preservation projects.
Just had a look on our facebook site similar NBR loco here http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fb ... =607063327
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
