W D 90775 is a 2-10 -0 built North British 1943 originally sent to Egypt. From 1945 worked on Greek Railways until 1967 when it was relegated to reserve and secondary service. Repatriated to UK 1984. Worked on Lavender Line,Sussex, then North York Moors Railway, presently on North Norfolk Railway. B R had 25 WD 2-10-0s in stock 90750- 90774 working in Scotland but all were withdrawn in 1961/1962. Other preserved WD 2-10-0s can be found on the NYMR and the SVR.

90733 is a WD 2-8-0 built Vulcan Foundry, Lancs, 1945, sent to Netherlands. In 1953 sold to Swedish Railways as No. 1931. Withdrawn 1956 and placed in strategic reserve1958. Repatriated to UK January1973 and eventually returned to service Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. British Railways had 733 of these engines 90000-90732 so this loco continues the number series. The last B R WD 2-8-0 was withdrawn in 1967. 90733 is the only preserved WD 2-8-0 version. As the loco had been extensively modified for operation in Sweden the KWVR decided to return it to original ondition, including the building of a WD 8 wheel tender for the engine. This work took from 1990 to 2007.

Correction to previous post: It was WD 2-10-0 3672 later 'Dame Vera Lynn' on Lavender Line when first repatriated to UK from Greece, engine now on NYMR.
No 90775, also from Greece first went to Mid-Hants, then NYMR ,now on North Norfolk Railway. Apologies for error.

Wonder if there are any clues hidden away in these recently released papers (I doubt it, somehow - probably too secret even for the cabinet to be allowed to know where they were :D )

Heres a video of the East German DDR Steam reserve, sadly neglected and rusting away on a side track.

Strategic Steam Reserve - revealed

This is it guys, at long last we have tracked down the much vaunted and
fabled Strategic Steam reserve. It took a lot of looking and to tell you the truth
the German news team, had to search high and low for this cleverly disguised
Engine Shed stuck on the edge of a forest, in the middle of nowhere.
But no matter how overgrown the undergrowth might be since the end of
the Cold War. Those tell tale signs of a single railway track leading into
the murky depth's of the forest, gave the game away. 8)

Of course for many Steam engine enthusiasts, this is the railway
equivalent of finding the Holy Grail, to come across a secret Storehouse
of mothballed steam engines, primed and ready to hit the rails, the
moment the Cold War turns hot during the decades long struggle
between the United States and the Soviet Union.

I could go on but I can see your all foaming at the mouth at the
prospect of seeing these slumbering leviathans emerging from
the depths of their Cold War seclusion. :D
So lets cut to the chase and roll the film, heres the video from
SWR - simply fast forward the video to 6.33 minutes where you
will see the very moment the investigation team, stumble across
the disused railway tracks that will lead them to the Strategic
Steam Reserve. 8) 8)

At last the Strategic Steam Reserve, revealed

Scrap !!!
Youve got to be kidding - these beauties are worth millions and if the
multitude of Railway presevation societies around Europe & the UK
don't snap them up - I'm sure theirs always the odd ex Pop star like
Peter Waterman or boys toys enthusiasts like James May who would
snap them up to build a life size model on their own private railway
track.

Failing that Swedish embassies around the world be inundated by 'Save
the Locos' protest groups.

What fantastic footage !! Someone must take allowing these trains to run like that, really seriously. All that parallel running with two double-headers, on an electrified route - great record-capturing opportunities, taken good advantage of.

Thanks for turning this up.

G'Day Gents

Nope 'fraid not, think you'll find that a 4-6-0 was scrapped last year, after spending the last 50 years tucked up in a nice warm shed, What a waste
