Derailing of Flying Scotsman 1926
I am a new contributer to this site. Although I am an avid and enthusiastic supporter of steam railways i do not profess to be an expert. However this is to inform those interested that a few years ago I wrote a little book about the Flying Scotman, hauled by The Merry Hampton that was derailed and wrecked during the General Strike 1926. It is called Let No Wheels Turn by Margaret Hutcherson and can be bought directly from me for £5.00 including p+p for Uk. My E.mail is margaretehutcherson@yahoo.co.uk. Ironically the Merry Hampton crashed again not far from the 1926 incident but this time causing fatalities.

Not the Goswick crash. This is the 1926 CRAMLINGTON crash (Northumberland) with the Flying Scotsman being hauled by the Merry Hampton

See also here for footage of the 1947 accident at Goswick involving Merry Hampton. I noticed on Tuesday, returning to Edinburgh from Newcastle, that the small chapel which was used as a temporary mortuary is still there.
So - did anyone dare tell Stephenson, "It's not Rocket science"?

Two places to say a silent prayer on the ECML Morpeth & Goswick scenes of at least seven crashes between them.
