I'm not an expert on this area at all (I get lost north of Shaftholme Jct!) but on looking at my back copies of the IRS EL booklets there was, in 1969, a diesel at ICI Billingham named "Allendale".
Trouble is it wasn't a "Planet" - it was a YE (Yorkshire Engine) Janus type 0-6-0DE - YE 2629 of 1956.

I've been talking to some others, and their information is that ICI had a fertiliser? plant at Prudhoe - around about where the kleenex is now made - and a number of small locos to work their sidings......but the name / make didn't mean anything.

Redtoon dont you dare print a link like the last one again, it had me up till daft o'clock reading through it. I even found a bit of history that i now own. A certain M&W Nameplate.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

A quick flick through the excellent IRS Handbook M (Northumberland), published in 1983, has the following entry on page 71 - I have edited it for brevity;
ICI Ltd Prudhoe-on-Tyne
Situated (OS Map 88 NZ 095638) alongside the Newcastle-Carlisle line 3/4m east of Prudhoe Station.
Opened in 1942 for the production of sulphate of ammonia, and was operated by ICI on behalf of the MOS until 1954 when it became part of ICI itself. There were 4 0-4-0ST used there, 3 RSH and 1 WB. It closed in March 1967, after being gradually run down for several years.
2 of the RSH and the WB were sold for scrap in 1965, after arrival of a diesel from ICI Billingham. 1 RSH was retained, probably as a spare to the diesel, and this was scrapped in 1967 when the diesel was sent back to Billingham.
The diesel was....... 1 "Allendale", 0-6-0DE YE 2629 of 1956!
p.s. It must have been some plant - it is reported in "M" as consuming 150,000 tons of coal a year.

Kilfrost Wagons
Hi,
I was looking for info on Kilfrost wagons and came across this thread. I am trying to figure out if the tank wagons used by Kilfrost were ever sent via Carlisle and was asking more in hope than expectation that somebody on this forum knows the answer. The company has been around since the 1930s and suplied de-icer to the RAF during the war, so could they have had their own wagons by this time? The only pictures I have of wagons are ones taken during the 1970s by my dad, ones on Paul Bartletts website and a shot on flickr, from the 80s.
