Steam roller on railway track at Kiveton

Post by Boris »

Sometime during 1938/9 or the very early 40s I was coming home from school and walking up Hard Lane at Kiveton Park near to where the colliery signal box was situated.

Laying on the track on its side was a steam roller which I found out later had driven to close to the railing to let a car pass the opposite way which caused the rollers to drag to the left with the result it broke through the rails and fell onto the track right in front of Kiveton Colliery signal box.

I am trying to find out if there is any report of this accident for inclusion on the Kiveton Historical Society site as they have not been able to find any details of it.

The driver was injured but I met him some years later between 1947 / 49 when he worked as a cobbler at North Anston
