Mysterious plates at Broxbourne
Can anyone explain what these plates, attached to a sleeper in platform 4 at Broxbourne, mean please? I expect they're either something to do with the P-Way or S&T, but what is their actual significance?
Re: Mysterious plates at Broxbourne
They are the latest style of Cant marking.
The plates are plastic and stuck or power nailed to the sleepers.
This is instead of the hand painted yellow sleepers.
It details the Curve Radius in this case R = 3073 metres
The Cant in place 30mm
The length of the transition from 30mm either up or down in this case 25 metres.
Although from the look of it the actual cant of 30mm stays the same through the transition so this would indicate that it is a Virtual transition between 2 fairly shallow curves of slightly differing radii.
These details are required for tamping in order to retain the design track geometry.

Re: Mysterious plates at Broxbourne
Thanks for your comprehensive explanation. My confusion was increased by the letters "TL" on the plate, because this also happens to be the 100,000 metre Ordnance Survey square in which Broxbourne is situated!Bryan wrote:They are the latest style of Cant marking.
