I was saddened to see, near the Dean Sidings and Golden Arrow ads, two ads for "chat lines" as they are called in the July BRM.Is this a first for the model railway press? Do they really need the advertising revenue that badly? Is this what I want to see when I sit down with a cuppa and a spare ten minutes to flick through a model railway magazine?Do I sound like a prude? One of my motives for modelling is to escape from contemplating what is sad and squalid in modern life through nostalgia and I really didn't like seeing this.I am tempted to write and say this-what do other people think?Or am I just turning into Angry of Mayfair in very early middle age?
Oh and please Richard delete or redirect this if you think it is not appropriate for this superb site!

Rob,

I too noticed those ads and was to say the least surprised. I don't think it's prudish to expect advertising in a magazine to be relevant to the content. I find it particularly surprising it was in BRM, who have been so 'prudish' themselves if you like when it comes to certain manufacturers offerings. 1 standard for modelling another for the rest of life perhaps. Not sure if that makes sense, it's 2am!
