Ay up!
Cosford, Duxford and Hendon have to be my favourite 'plane museums. No-one minds if you step over the coaming and get up close to the exhibits.
There I was at Hendon, gazing up into a Mossie cockpit when a Cockney voice behind me said "Always wanted to fly these meself." It was one of the security chaps. We had a good chat about all sorts then he went on his rounds but before he did he said with a twinkle in his eye "I did think of asking if you two want to be alone!"

Duxford has to be my fav. I've only got up into a few cockpits ( might try to arrange getting in a Lanc next year) , but I have flown this Boeing Stearman;

Good to see a Mozzie flying!
But engines are for wimps!
This is what I first soloed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schweizer_SGS_2-33
The airframe I flew might have been older than myself, and it might have the looks and aerodynamics of an elephant, but it still manages a significantly better glide ratio than the Space Shuttle. The instructor who cleared me happened to be a Shuttle instructor...
In the end I soloed a couple of types and logged some good flights, but moved up to Dallas before getting my full pilot's license.

Wow I didn't think a Mossie would ever fly again after that unfortunate incident all those years ago. One plane I've never seen in action, but now maybe......you never know!

Ay up!
Regarding the Mossie that crashed in the US.
This was overhauled at Leeds, near Dewsbury. I saw on test several times and drooled every time. The last time I saw her, she was "beating up" the town at less than 1,000ft. A sight and a sound to bring goosepimples!

Newark is lovely, as is Elvington. One has a 'shack', hastings and vulcan, the other has a mossie, victor and halifax
