Thames Pageant

A brilliant turnout of steam boats for the 1000 vessel strong pageant, also including LMS 6201 which was on Battersea rail bridge whistling for her magesty. Now backed off the bridge and presumeably on the way to railfest :)

Your right about her being on the way to Railfest. :P
Rather majestic seeing her whistle and then move away like that. When you think about it, that amount of smoke in the sky, wouldn't have been acceptable in London a few decades ago. :D

Wish I could have seen it but I'm in Turkey - Gallipoli to be precise, exploring the WW1 battlefields and landing beaches. Looking forward to seeing the highlights on my return - shame the Waverley wasn't involved, an ex-LNER steamer!

It's on the iPlayer for a week. Don't know if helps? Maybe you could get someone to download it for you.

Sawdust.

...but not for those of us in the Colonies. We're only allowed iPlayer radio - no TV.

I can often get to see live stuff, so I caught the end of the Pageant but missed the much talked-about 6021 kicking things off!

(near the end, I thought I heard something about the only operating steam ship in the procession, which doesn't sound right if Waverley wasn't there)

I saw the bit with 6201 on Youtube. I'm pretty sure someone uploaded it.

Yep, YouTube is pretty reliable for that sort of thing. The CTV (Canadian Television) news showed about 2 nanoseconds of 6201 on the bridge.

Did you manage to catch those two nanoseconds?

No such luck. The old minces are less than bionic these days. :(

I saw it on CBC television, though the commentator was rabbeting on about something else. The whole diamond jubilee flotilla seemed to be on CBC Ottawa all day.

As a grumpy old git, I have to complain that while the pageant itself was good, the constant to-ing and fro-ing from z-list TV presenters was just distracting.

A voice over to varying camera shots would have sufficed. They had lots of cameras all over the place and the procession along the Thames was with a thousand vessels, so surely enough to inspire commentary?

There's 2.54 minutes here with plenty of barging royals, if that's your cup of tea: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/video/2012 ... NETTXT3486. The two minute parade down the Mall is also worth a glance.
My son tried to see the float-by from both sides of the Thames, but all he could see was heads, no river! He ended up in a pub watching it on television.

Travelled up behind 6201 to London. Missed a booked appointment on the London Eye cos of the crowds. Went to Stratford Olympic village. Allowed 1 3/4 hours to get back to 6201. Got there 3 mins too late. Came back from Marylebone by class 67.

Bugger!
