Attention Model Railway & LNER fans in Queensland.

The Gold Coast Model Railway Club is holding a Family Open Day at our clubrooms at 18 Kendor Street, Arundel, Gold Coast 4214. It’s on Sunday 8 April 2012 and the doors are open from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

The club will have G, N, HO/OO; O & On30 scale layouts in full operation. We even have a historic Triang oval setup. Indeed our OO/HO layout is probably one of the largest in Australia. Come along and see for yourself the home of Albion Junction MPD as it will be running an extensive array of LNER loco's and trains.

Car parking is easy and quality refreshments are available. The club will also host model railway table sales and indeed advice for modellers of all ages and levels of experience. The cost is $2.00 per person and only $5.00 for a family.

We are proudly a children friendly club so mark your calendar now.

Regards

Steve

Hi Mate,

It's our great New South Wales Government Railways two cylinder Class 36 loco in its standard lined black paint scheme.

For more info look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_ ... locomotive

The low volume Australian RTR loco's are superbly detailed and cost us a mint, I'm not an expert but this one being over $400.00. The NSWGR Garrett they made is an absolute gem.

Ay up, Steve!

Cheers - a handsome machine and no mistake.

Could I chop a Hornby Black 5? A two bottle problem methinks.....

Hi BB,

At the pub last night....we had a chat about what loco we would use if we had to make a Class 36 from RTR kits etc.

We all agreed initially that the Black Five but quickly changed our minds to say Royal Scot. And as far as all the LNER devotees are concerned at our meeting an excellent metamorphic endeavor.

Hi People,

Just a friendly reminder to all our Queensland friends that the Gold Coast Model Railway Club Family Open Day is on this Sunday 8 April…that’s only three sleeps away chaps. :D

By the way our turntable automation at Albion MPD is working a treat. 8) I hope to have some photos soon to show off its integration into the scenery.

Regards

Steve

Never mind that BB. That's the filthiest looking shed scene I've seen in many moons, and it is so right. Love the mildew/moss on the wooden shed in the foreground. The same from the seepage around the drainpipe on the far wall. The bits of coal lying about. The knocked over oil drum. The unevenness of the ground around the sleepers. The whole oily grubbiness of the place. Now that's real. Superb job there down under, Steve. More pics, please.

Ay up, Giner!

You are quite right. That is a very well realised shed scene and you, steve05, and your mates are to be congratulated!

Hi BB & Giner,
I thank you both for your observations and kind comments. :D I have tried very hard to create a MPD scene that reflected my boyhood experiences and indeed the documentary evidence around the decay of BR sheds at the end of steam which I witnessed. :(

In the yard I have used real materials such as soot, ash, coal and extremely fine coal dust. It’s deliberately very dark to reflect an almost wet and greasy look. Indeed the yard accumulation is extremely uneven and random in a deliberate way. I have a huge reference library but I continue to learn from everyone at this Forum. Therefore your encouragement certainly helps my motivation to do more.

I have spent so much energy doing the MPD and undertaking carriage, loco and wagon weathering for others that my own LNER heritage loco fleet is still very pristine…. for now.

I am currently working on the yard lamps which we acquired from DCC Concepts. Once we get the yard right I will super detail the shed roofs and vents. The shed rafters have correct scale lighting so it should look the part once finished. 8)

These are some Arial shots that show the relationship of Albion Junction MPD 50J to Albion Junction Station:

And some other shed angles. This one from the coal stage road:

Have fun.

Don't usually comment in the modelling section, but I have to say, I've never seen five diesel loco prototypes in one (model) place before; and good-looking ones too!
