More Tombstoning
Sorry all my good friends on this forum, but like Redtoon, I am also out of here.
I've had enough of the trite and insulting remarks over the past few months. This used to be a valuable, helpful and interesting place to visit, but appears, in my opinion, to have been inundated by people who just love to see their own words in print. Stuff like idiot, nobhead and other insults have no place here. I have neither the time nor the inclination to log on just to read comments that make no significant contribution to knowledge.
To all those who have given me valuable help and advice over the years...I thank you.
To all those who contribute to the modelling forum....keep going lads...it was great to read your stuff and I stand in awe of your talents.
Best wishes to all the true contributors to this site....and sorry Richard. You work hard to keep this going.
Goodbye.
Malcolm

Re: More Tombstoning
Who on earth said "nobhead" on here? I certainly haven't seen that and I suspect it would have been deleted if it had appeared.
Generally you will ALWAYS get this sort of behaviour on any internet forum: you take the good with the bad, and as far as I'm concerned, there's more good than bad on the LNER forum by far.
Redtoon made a gaffe and paid for the penalty, to which he overreacted and left.
Here I feel there's something more at work here, but nobody is going to stop you if you've made your mind up, Malcolm.
A great pity in my view because I have thoroughly enjoy reading each and every one of your eloquent, informative posts.
On a side note I'm finding this increasing behaviour of "I'm leaving the internet" more and more ridiculous and wearying. If you don't like a particular internet forum you've joined for whatever reasons, it's always best just to not log in for a bit and come back when you want to. No "finality" to it all, you come and go as you please. Internet forums are generally for one of two things: information and general chit chat. If you don't feel like partaking in the latter then the former is always available.
But the "big statement" in terms of leaving seems to be in vogue at the moment.

Malcolm,
I hope that you get to see or hear of this, but although I don't think yours and my LNER interests shared much common ground (I think I may never have contributed to follow any of your thread posts), I did find your informative posts interesting and enlightening, and would liked to have seen more if the opportunity presented.
All the best to you.

Re: More Tombstoning
Richard, it might be worth adding an "ignore" button. I've seen this on other forums and all a person needs to do is press this and any future postings by someone who irks somebody else are omitted.

Re: More Tombstoning
If you look at a members' profile you will find on left, an option to add that member as a "foe".
I have not tried it, and I'm not sure how I would know it was working, but I have always assumed that was the equivalent of the ignore option.

I assume it just marks user's replies as friendly or enemy - but I've never used it or needed to. There might be a switch to disable it but I have yet to find it!

I've had a little play and found that the "add foe" button does just this.giner wrote:Richard, it might be worth adding an "ignore" button. I've seen this on other forums and all a person needs to do is press this and any future postings by someone who irks somebody else are omitted.
Fret not, I didn't confirm my action. At least, I don't think I did. Anybody know how to clear the Foe list, just in case?

Re: More Tombstoning
Good work, SS and BB. I hadn't seen the 'foe' feature. I can't think of anyone on the forum I'd need to use it against, anyway.
