BR standard "Clan" class light pacifics, designed by R.A.Riddles. Although I have no idea what a "hornt" is, unless it is a kind of large, dangerous insect.

Anyway, keeping the hits right on comin' at ya, fingers on the triggers for this mind-grinder:

2 Designer sounds quite bookish
3 One named after Alan Shearer pulling a sleigh

I am practically telling you the answer with those clues

Yes another easy one - I'll let other people guess it.

I don't quite get clue #2 though?
(#1 and #3 make sense - and match the same class!)

Yes, too easy I think

Dubbed does mean knighted (I hereby dub you Sir ....... ?) and the V2 was the name of the WW11 German Doodlebug unmanned rocket sometimes known as the "flying bomb".

(and theree was a Peenemunde prototype rocket called the A4 - I forget if it was the V2 prototype, or their trans-atlantic planned rocket)

The "Doodlebug" was the V1, wasn't it? Launched from a ski-ramp site, flew in a horizontal trajectory until its ram-jet engine cut out at a predetermined point and it then fell to earth? Could be shot down (in "Operation Diver") by AA guns or by RAF fighters?

The V2 was an altogether more sophisticated machine which was effectively the first ICBM, and whose principal developer Werner Von Braun was "ghosted" away to America after WW2 and ended up heavily involved with the NASA space programme. No defence against the V2 was possible.

Both my parents remember the V1 and V2 attacks (being from West Kent), and get quite stressed even now when they hear the sinister farting buzz of a V1 which then falls ominously silent.

Mons Meg - a 2-8-2 "Mikado". Also the ancedotal name of a large artillery piece stored at Edinburgh Castle.

So: next one. Take a very large piece of paper and think of the affectionate local name for Mons Meg's home.

I was pretty certain about the class but had to look up the Edinburgh nickname. There are a couple of other Peppercorn A1s that fit a Scottish Meg/Margaret theme.

A Fortress class and regally nicknamed, this one commemorates the tigers.

I think I have the engineer and probably the class for the first one, but I detect a distinct hint of Sir Walter Scott, and I'm afraid I've never read any of his books!

I think the class for the second is fairly easy, but I'll leave others to find the specific engine.
