Delighted to read that genial Johnny Armitt, that fine railwayman and one time boss of Coucherman at Network Rail (before they combined the two jobs) is now with the Olympic Delivery Authority on a trifling £250k for a three day week. Sure he's worth every penny of the taxpayers money but a bit choked to think that it's all been built on the site of Stratford Loco - how times change. Why are we such easy going mugs??

Wasn't he 'removed' after the Hatfield (was it at Redhall?) broken-rail accident in 2000?. Micky

....slightly nearer the site of Hatfield No.1 than of Redhall, Micky : Not far north of 'Oxlease' bridge, on the right-hand curve, close to where Hatfield 1's Up Starters (had Redhall's Distants below them at one time) once stood. - If current signal numbers [ which of course WGC temp'y panel came to control once Hatfield (No.2)'s temp'y panel was taken out of everyday use and moved to the relay room for emergencies ] help you at all, Micky, the derailment demolished K563 (the DF 'home' signal for Hatfield).

Yes i know where you mean now Stevie i wasn't sure where that accident had happened?. I was at Camden Road box that day when it happened and i can remember thinking that it probably wouldn't have happened under B.R. like what happened with the Potters Bar accident as well. Micky

Hardly linked to the Olympics, but ever read about the other 'Potters Bar' collision; a mini-'Harrow', in 1946 or '47 I think. Serious enough indeed, but with far fewer casualties.

It's not a well known accident on the southern section of the L.N.E.R. As for the 2012 Olympics wake me up when it's all over good night.
