I note that the membership of this Forum is approaching 3000, currently 2996. Now plus two.

Thanks once again to Richard and the team for their continued hard work.

Seasons greetings.

John

3000 member's maybe but at a rough guess usually only about 40-50 active member's that either post regular or just come on the forum most days of the week.

Micky,

You are undoubtedly correct.

But, I would refer you to 26 June 2009, the first post of ..........

One has to start somewhere.

Just an observation John although it would be something if all 3000 member's were 'logged in' on the forum at the sametime that would look very impressive!!.

Thanks for the compliments.

Yes 3000 are never logged in at once - and how many have never posted?

Unrelated, I shall be travelling over the next week: West Texas & New Mexico. No railway destinations (although we'll no doubt pass many long distance BNSF & UP freights & coal drags) but hiking, volcanoes, dunes, snow, a major Civil War battle site, and possibly a missile museum...

Is there a way of filtering out anyone with zero posts that joined before 1st Jan 2010?
As an arbitrary date.

Now how many members are there?

G'day Gents

We may never have even 1,500 logged on at any one time, but, how lucky are we to have a dedicated site for all things LNER, Thank you Richard, and a Happy New year to you.

Happy New Year to all

There are many members who log on but don't post on the forum.

I think you can get benefit from the forum with not contributing.

I find that my learning curve is made steeper (and hence faster) by contributing, asking questions, and displaying my amateurish efforts which draw useful comments. My railway book collection has increased greatly by reacting to posts on here.

Long may LNER Encyclopedia continue and grateful thanks to all those who post on here.

I do agree with Earlswoods sentiments above.

And I would also concur with 'earlswood' and 52D, (except about the book collection as mine has long been too large already :) ).

I too would like to wish that the future will be rosy for this forum in the same manner as other posters above.

However, it cannot have escaped anyone's notice that a number of former regular posters have disappeared, and as a result the variety and quality of topics has, to me at least, gone into sharp decline. With an upsurge in model related topics which may be of interest to some but not all.
Without the variety of subjects then the interest level falls with a result that the power of this forum to supply answers to queries is severely curtailed again with the result that nobody bothers to come on here and ask.

Do a realistic check back through the posts yourselves and see if I am mistaken in this.
How many new posters? Or is it the same old few each day?

I do sincerely hope that I am wrong in this

Bryan im a regular poster and have posted on most subjects although leaning towards modelling at the moment as ive rediscovered my Mojo. I think the choice of subjects is about right and they can all overlap in some areas. Maybe some of the new posters are a bit overawed by the experts on the forum. As far as im concerned this forum has got the best balanced, none patronising viewpoint that I have seen on any other railway site on the net.
Do we try to improve things. My view is with the small and major upgrades that Richard has made over the years make this a good and viable site and we don't need to do much else unless there is a dramatic fall in the number of subjects and postings. One thing I have seen in some sites is when you join you have to introduce yourself and areas of interest in a bit more expanded way than what we do in this forum. Im not entirely sure that this works.
Anyway ive said enough, bearing in mind that this is my opinion I do welcome further debate.
