Yes he jumped quite a few shows - even on to the radio...

Seems like a complete waste of taxpayers money to me.
At the risk of being branded a kill-joy, I would have just have had The Queen (Her Maj. not the band) walk up onto a dais, cut a ribbon and say:-
"I now declare the London 2012 Olympics open"
That would have saved millions.
