Thanks, Bill. I could never quite put a finger on that and it's too far back to remember whether there were any identifying marks on it. There probably was a plate of some kind, but it was a bit dangerous larking about around that equipment. We weren't without a sense of fear, even though we were young and bulletproof.

There is a much later copy of a Langley diagram on my site. It is nowhere near as interesting as that dyeline. I think we are going to be relaying on the site of the troughs soon. I can't wait to see what gets dug up <g> I think we may be looking for a different method of working after last Sunday's incident..

Whilst waiting for the steam special at Hitchin, due 19:15, the whole job stopped. The up and down fasts were blocked for relaying at Stevenage and everything was using the slows. I'm not sure of the exact details but it looks like one of the pway guys shared the same space at a train on the up slow. As far as i know he is ok and i've heard a rumour he has been discharged from hospital. I really hope this is true. Tangmere made it through the chaos around 22:00..

Here's a photo which I was given by one of my railway colleagues in days of yore showing Midlothian Edinburgh Waverley. She would have been a nice preservation subject.

Absolutely agree. Much better than the ignominious fate accorded its tender.
