Just a bit of idle thinking, In this age of jetliner travel, wouldn't it be nice if you could board a train in London and by various changes be able to travel by train all the way to Singapore, via Turkey and India.
Although this might be possible via Russia, China etc.

Manna if the new line in Arabia goes ahead, with the handiwork of T.E.Lawrence repaired and regauged it should in theory be able to travel from Wick to India at least.
The gaps at the moment would be the line through Syria which would need repair and regauging then from the Saudi border to Medina which needs reinstating and regauging followed by the proposed route from Medina to Jeddah then Riyadh(under consideration). Riyadh to Dammam exists. A further route which is proposed is to go from Dammam to Jubail then up to Kuwait before joining the Iraq system.
There is also a proposal for a pan arabic line from Saudi to Bahrain via a long viaduct then another viaduct to link to the rest of the Gulf states.
Malcolm should be able to tell us more developments as hes on the ground in Kuwait.
