Transpennine derailment

A TPE service was partially derailed in Summit Tunnel by a 4ft piece of fallen ice.

Yes - it was "fallen" ice. The train was only designed to handle "hanging" ice...

Joking aside, it must have been a terrifying experience derailing in a tunnel.

I remeber a train coming down from Penistone early one morning and coming out of Thurgoland tunnel with the front pantograph smashed off with ice in the tunnel
