Re: It really does fix everything!
There actually was a research thing that grabbed the news (over here at least) a few years back - probably from some consumer organisation or other. They confirmed duct tape does indeed fix a large number of things very well, with one exception: ducts!
(a typical US home will have HVAC ducting rather than water-based central heating)
I assume the same is true for gaffer tape and English gaffers...

Ay up!
You are entirely correct. We once taped the Boss to his chair and used "gaffer tape." He was not amused.....

Hi everyone, just picked up on this thread, which I'm sure will ultimately come to a sticky end!

Not railway related but I trust my story will make you smile.
My youngest granddaughter is 5 going on 15 - you know the sort!
She is very adept using sellotape (sorry sticky backed plastic - other brands are available) with card and paper to make models, so I have high hopes of her continuing skills and use her interest in modelling as an wife arm wrestling tactic when it comes to space for the railway to be. (I lost, so now it looks as though it's going to be in the garage)
Anyway. one early morning she went into Daddy and said she was having a nightmare.
Daddy, replied "Urgggnngr - what frightened you?"
"Well. there were crocodiles and they tried to bite me and so I used Sellotape to bind up their snouts. But they kept breaking it."
Daddy, "OK are you all right now?"
She paused for a while and said, " Yes - but I should have used duct tape."
