The LNER was formed at the beginning of 1923, and ceased to exist at the end of 1947.
For Scotland, then the period 1900-1923 means they almost certainly worked with either the North British Railway and/or the Great North of Scotland Railway. Both of these companies became a part of the LNER.
The NBR took the East Coast line from Berwick to Edinburgh to Aberdeen, the Waverley Route from Carlisle to Edinburgh, and routes to Glasgow, etc. The GNSR ran from Aberdeen and was much smaller, with a variety of branch lines which don't exist any more.
1948 marked Nationalisation and the formation of British Railways / British Rail / BR.
