I am trying to find out more about my great Uncle, Albert (known as Ben) Saunders, who I believe was a chef on the Scotsman at some time between 1929 & 1950. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might start? I know his family history, but want to know more about his life & loves.
Thanks
SueP

Re: Chefs & Catering
Can't help you about Great Unc himself, Sue, but if you can get hold of Neil Wooler's book 'Dinner in the diner' it will give you a very good idea what life was like on the cars in those days. They led a hard life - BTW, they were always cooks on the railway, never chefs (according to the book) and worked in kitchens, not galleys - we had to wait for BeardieRail for that. Good luck
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!
