The summer 1948 ER timetable I've just acquired refers to Doncaster station as 'Doncaster Central'. I've never seen that before. Was there originally another station in Doncaster?

There was another station- St James Bridge, which I believe was used for excursion traffic mainly. other than that, I can't help. I know the main station was referred to as "Central" in LNER days, but the reference books I have don't give any clue as to why.

Found out a bit more. The South Yorkshire Railway arrived in Doncaster just before the GN, and had its own station, originally known as Cherry Tree Lane, but later St James Bridge. Apparently St James Bridge was retained specifically to deal with Doncaster race traffic, and in particular the St Leger meeting.
