I am sure that I remember it being reported in detail in the Railway Magazine at the time. Possibly some one still has that copy?

as a winner of the 2000 guineas, I bet he'd never seen one!
BTW I thought that generation of A1/A3s were all named after Derby winners....obviously not.

I was interested to see the pics of the crash, I was taken by my dad to see the scene soon after it happened, I alway thought it was a V2 that had hit the buffers as I always remembered it was a big engine. Here are some pics of the crash site taken today, you can still see where the bullnose to the stone is missing and the repair. The kiosk was boarded up for years afterwards.

Heh! I see the lettering on the adjacent platform reads "PASSENGER LIFT". Did it once read "ENGINE LIFT"? :twisted:
