Royal Border Bridge

A bit of detective work is needed im trying to solve a local mystery. Adjacent to Marshall Meadows Bay north of Berwick a tunnel exists from the level of the ECML to the foreshore. Local legend has it that it was constructed by fishermen or smugglers and later on a railway was laid down it to haul seaweed up from the shore.
Ive been discussing this on another site and one guy has come up with he had always thought that the stone used in the construction of the Royal Border Bridge was taken from this locality and ferried round to Berwick.
In all my reference books i cant find out where the stone for the bridge was quarried can anyone help.
