Oakleigh Park

( Just a note here to mention that there are parts of four posts of yesterday [at 00:38, 14:31, 19:55 and 23:41 BST] in "General Chat"s thread "I HATE TEENAGERS!!", including one photo, about Oakleigh Park; which would probably have been more appropriate in this forum.)

There was at onetime 4 different s/boxes at 4 different times at Oakleigh Park station.
1.The first s/box stood beside the up slow line at the north end of the station.
2.The second s/box stood in between the up slow & up fast lines at the north end of the station platforms.
3.The third s/box stood beside the down slow line to the south of the station in the recess of the retaining wall.
4.The fourth & last s/box stood between the down slow & down fast lines at the south end of the station platforms and i believe was built by the L.N.E.R. circa 1924?. (Not sure if thats the correct date?).

Thanks for that, Micky. Here's that photo of the 1924 box you mention from our man '2562', posted earlier this year. It's the one that I remember.

The up & down goods lines were abolished in late 1969 i recall and the s/box was closed around the autumn of 1970 at the sametime as New Barnet south box was closed.

Here is what I have on the boxes at Oakleigh Park:
1. Oakleigh Park Down signal box at 8m 18ch, opened 1882, replaced 12 July 1924 by a second hand GN Type 3 superstructure on a new brick base slightly nearer station
2. Oakleigh Park signal box opened 12 July 1924, closed 14 June 1970
3. Whetstone signal box opened October 1866, renamed Oakleigh Park 1873 (probably 1 December when station opened), reframed 1878 (possibly a new structure), closed late 1892
4. Oakleigh Park Up signal box at 8m 34¾ch, opened 1892, closed 1901
5. Oakleigh Park Up signal box at 8m 34¾ch (further back to allow for extra line), opened 1901, closed 12 July 1924

As thought (and previously mentioned on another thread about Oakleigh Park-Cemetery s/boxes) TCs B & F which includes the 440 yards required in advance of no.10 down fast line home/starting signal to be (both) 'clear' for normal acceptance purposes from Cemetery s/box.
Interesting to see the 'break' (non-track circuited section of line) in the track circuits in the up slow line between TCs E & D.
New Barnet south box up slow line starting signal which carried Oakleigh Park's no.7 up slow line distant signal beneath it always use to lean slightly over to the left as a driver would look at it.
No.23 up goods line distant signal was on a tall concrete post nearly opposite New Barnet south box.
Oakleigh Park & New Barnet south boxes were both closed in June 1970?. I thought they both closed around August of 1970 BUT i'm probably wrong??.
