Groan!! Yes I know, I know. I'm running out of excuses at this stage! Age, failing eyesight, my family, are all putting the bite on me.

The biggest problem with original research is that just when you think you have enough material to make a start, another source opens up. I agree that a point must be reached where you have to call a halt on that part of the project and commence the writing part. There's certainly no obstacle to to the writing element - I was an IT technical writer for 25 years. So yes, at some point there will be a publication.
