Don't know if you can help? - I was looking at a railway accident list from 1862 which mentioned a collision on the NER at Sherborn Junction.
Does anyone know where this is - could it be a mis-spelling?

Sherborne is near Yeovil, my guess would be Sherburn, either the one near Durham or Sherburn in Elmet in Yorkshire.

Thanks for that - it seems logical to be either of those. the accident report lists from the Board of Trade can often spell things incorrectly.

Just to add to this.
Weaverthorpe LC on the York Scarborough line is alongside the village of Sherburn.
Weaverthorpe village is about 5 miles south of the A64 frequently visited by rail staff who do not know the area. Named as such to avoid confusion with Sherburn in Elmet.

thanks for the info - The return was from Oct 1862 & reported a collision between two goods trains with one driver being killed after one train passed the signals against it. It sounds like it could be Durham but the only certain way to check will be to track down the BOT report if one was produced.

The Railways Archive has accidents at Sherburn but nothing for 1862.
