Plant Visits

Just a thought, having spent many days in the late 50s early 60s at Doncaster I have never seen a Haymarket pacific come on or leave the shed (other than running in turns to Leeds). My question is how did they work to Doncaster for "plant" visits they always seem to appear as if by magic dead on shed.

Have seen pics of pacifics from the Scottish region travelling as light engine to the works.
Perhaps they were too knackered to put them on a diagramed train.

Saw several in the 50's and early 60's heading south through Selby usually as light engines but sometimes as double/triple headers with other locos heading for Doncaster. That was the only chance we had of 'copping' Scottish pacifics except for A4's on the summer timetabled Elizabethan.
