hello, just stumbled across this wonderful forum.

I got this basin out of a skip today and it has LNER stamped on the taps.

Any info would be very welcome.

Sink out of coach by the look of it. Iam obviously looking in the wrong skips., But not as much fun as travelling aroud Aberdeenshire farms looking for old coach bodies.

You found this in a skip!?

As Trestol says this is a standard LNER carriage wash basin used from the 1920's right the way through until the end of Gresley designed carriages in the early 1940's.

There are several carriage restoration groups who may be interested in this if you are willing to part with it. Please PM me if you are.

Thanks

Dave Cullingworth, Secretary LNER Coach Assn.

Thanks for the replies. I have no idea what this was doing in a skip in Sheffield. The basin waste is modern with a plastic washer..so I'm guessing it has been installed in a house at some point?

Possibly but not sure those taps are designed for working at mains pressure.

Which reminds me; I have a large bar (about the size of a house brick) of soap stamped LNER. That came from Rotherham.

It hasn't by any chance got a number written in crayon on the underside has it? If it has this will be the coach number it came out of.

Why on earth did somebody throw this in a skip? my first thought would have been "ebay 99p start bid" even without the railway connection. Well done for saving it.
