Darlington routes

I wonder whether anyone has traversed the railways around Darlington in the following ways [bearing in mind that I have never lived in the area and have always been infrequent user: these were scheduled passenger trains!]?
1.1951/2: A journey from Middlesbrough involved a call at Dinsdale followed by reversal to gain access to the 'Fighting Cocks' branch. The train went to North Road then reversed into Bank Top without a pilot.
2.1964: A journey from Middlesbrough to Northallerton was scheduled to go via Yarm. Something was amiss on that line so the dmu proceeded to Darlington and threaded its way through southern Darlington's goods lines/sidings in order to gain the ECML without reversal.
