A bit of a mess

Derailment at Dinting in 1981 which curtailed a pre closure visit I was going to make. I did get eventually!! Surprised the excuse wasn't taken then to shut.

I think this accident appeared in the book TRAINS IN TROUBLE when a railway enthusiast just happened to be taking photographs at Dinting station when by pure chance he caught the wagons come off the road right before him as the train was going through the middle of the station!!.

Not only is it in Trains in Trouble it was also caught on video ISTR.

Was it spread over quite a distance or is it 2 separate incidents?

I don't know the Dinting area and i'm only going on a couple of pictures that i saw in a book (Trains in trouble) showing the accident actually happening but i would say it's probably the same train. The train involved in this accident was a loose-coupled train with a brake van at the rear i would say that the train broke into a couple of different portions.

I may be wrong but i believe a wagon was derailed just after the viaduct coming through the station ripping up the track and infrastructure as well as derailling a few more wagons. This led to singling of the line at this point for a few months before closure.
I will dig in the Railway Archive site to see if they have a report for this one.
