Some scans from my lovely little hardback North Eastern Railway Rule Book of 1913. Again, if anyone wants anything looking up, let me know

I'm not sure if you are aware that the Rule Books were based on an RCH model and that each Company only incorporated any specific variations peculiar to it, or perhaps in connection with either Joint Lines or other Companies servants working over its own lines.

A useful clue is included in the section about signals on p12, where a GNR somersault signal is illustrated as an 'other Company practice'; in the GNR Rule Book the captions would have been reversed.

In addition to the Rule Book, there were other generic publications such as one concerning the safety of those working on the permanent way and another on dealing with long and projecting loads, all developed under the auspices of the RCH.

...Probably explains why the non-somersaulting signal drawings have arms which look suspiciously like the LNWR style.

But many thanks for posting your scans. I have never had a look at a Rule Book that old.
