I have spent quite a lot of time looking for this book
North Eastern Railway: Diagrams of snowploughs and can't seem to find a copy anywhere at all. Ironically it was printed in knaresborough where I live in 1969 so its well out of print. I also can't afford to go and visit he likes of the ken hoole study centre at present.

Does anyone have any other ideas where I could find a copy of some plans especially with the NRM out of action at the moment.

The owner of NER snowplough no.18 has obtained drawings of his plough from the nrm. As these are former OPC drawings i think they are still available.

I think the message I was trying to get across was that it should be possible to get the drawings I refered to from the NRM despite the Library being closed for the search engine project.

The drawings my client has are the NRM's copyright so he could not copy them for you.

With regard to the current discussion on NER ploughs.
Does anyone know of an incident at ANNITSFORD between Newcastle and Berwick about 1895 where a train rode up over a plough in a head on crash. I have seen a copy of a photo showing this but would like to identify which plough it was.
Can anyone help?

I'm sure I remember reading about the accident, as I seem to recall that Wilson Worsdell was travelling on the plough or one of the locomotives at the time but escaped serious injury.

Regrettably, though, I don't think I have anything which will shed any light on the identity of the plough itself.

On googling for info on snowploughs, i found a picture on the Getty images website of a snowplough looking very much like an NER snowplough.
Only it is double ended. Image number 2698679
The only trouble is it was taken in 1866 on the Pacific Railway in the USA.

I know there was a visit to the states by NER managers did someone bring back the design and adapt it to NER needs?

That plough is 1 of the 3 steel bodied ploughs built at Gateshead in 1909.
Looks like it is pictured on the coast in the Hartlepool area.
Another postcard picture can be found on "senior service" card 7 of 1933 which shows a Timber plough possibly at Barnard Castle.
If anyone could suggest a source for a copy of the original photo for this other than the cigarette firm.
I would also appreciate it if anyone knows where I might find a good picture of No 18 or 900572 The "Bleath Ghyll" plough.

Is the NYMR plough one of the pair that used to be at Tweedmouth?
