NER/LNER livery detail question

The NER used to paint the locos class and home shed on the bufferbeam and Darlington carried on after the grouping.
What i want to know is what was painted on the Scottish based NER locos before the grouping.
Hooles booklet North Eastern Railway Locomotive stock as at 31/12/1920 does not have codes for some of the sub sheds although the LNER added these codes at a later date for example Alnmouth which at the time was a sub of Gateshead does not have a code but the LNER used ALN after the grouping.
The Haymarket shed built for the NER seems to have been a sub of Tweedmouth would the locos have carried TWD or another code entirely.

Hello. You are quite right that the class number was painted on the buffer beam. However, it was not until the late '30's that the home shed was added. Hope this helps.
Forward!
