Don't know whether this has ever been posted here but I found this fascinating "speeded up" video of a train journey from Withernsea to Hull in 1957 on Youtube.

Enjoy.

I always thought that the route was double track throughout-obviously not.Another video linked to this site shows 69858 running round its train in Withernsea station. As a kid in the early 50's I used to go from Hull to Hornsea for summer holidays and assumed that this route was also double track throughout or am I wrong?

Both branches were built as single track, and both were doubled in the early 1900's. On the Withernsea branch, the sections betweeh Hedon and Burstwick stations and Ottringham-Winestead stayed single 'till the end.
I used to have this on VHS Video, and I'm sure at the start the film explained how the steam trains had been replaced by diesel railcars, showing a loco shunting round the train at Withernsea thn cut to a shot of the poster announcing "new diesel trains"......
I seem to recall the film was made for/by the owner of Withernsea cinema and was shown as an "extra" in some performances.
This is something simlar for the Hornsea branch, but more, erm, recent (was on Channel 4 a few years ago):
