Demolition of Selby Loco Shed

Selby loco shed closed in September 1959 and I know it remained derelict for several years. The site is now covered with a housing estate, police station, council offices and Tesco store. Immediately after closure loaded coaled wagons were stored in the shed yard for a while and the odd failed steam loco sometimes appeared dumped adjacent to the old buildings. The first one to arrive was a V2 and as kids we all initially thought the shed had reopened-wishful thinking!!!!

I think the cenotaph coaling plant was demolished soon after shed closure.I remember it was a foggy sunday morning but unfortunately I arrived to late to see it fall. Can anyone put a date on this and also when the two round houses were finally removed.

Thanks in anticipation.

Have just sent an enquiry to a former driver at Selby to see if he knows.

The shed closed on 13th September 1959 and for a spell was used to store sugar beet from the local beet factory. The buildings were demolished in 1965. The mechanical coaling plant provided by the LNER was demolished in November 1964.

Many thanks for the info YNMR.I always thought that the coaling tower came down long before the buildings-must be memory failure due to old age!!
