Hi

I'm looking for info on the hull and barnsley railway and if anyone on here knows when the Upton and north Elmsall station was demolished. Could anyone tell me where I also might be able to buy any Hull and barnsley Railway items. Thanks.

Sorry, can't help with the demolition date.

I have had a quick look on the "Disused stations" website (below) and it is not listed.
http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/sites.shtml

Maybe someone on that site may be able to help.

If "H&B items" refers to books, there are quite a few different ones available and they crop up on e-Bay quite often. I can give you a list of ones to watch out for if that is any help. On another thread, someone is looking for DVDs of the H&B but so far no one has come up with any. There is or was a disused H&B shed at Hensall and there is a Youtube posting showing the dilapidated buildings.

There may be other books but these are the ones that I have -

The Hull & Barnsley Railway Volume 1 ed Ken Hoole
The Hull & Barnsley Railway Volume 2 ed B Hinchliffe
An Illustrated History of Hull & Barnsley Locomotives by M Barker

The above 3 are the definitive books about the history of the line & locos. Others that are worth obtaining mainly for the photographic content are -

Railway Rambles on the Hull & Barnsley Railway by CT Goode
Railway Memories No12 The H&BR by S Chapman (Bellcode Books)
The Train Now Standing Volume 1 by Ted Dodsworth ( I don't think that a Vol 2 was ever published)

A potted history of the H&B was published by Oakwood in the 1950s, but this has been totally eclipsed by the 2 volumes at the top of my list -

The Hull & Barnsley Railway by GD Parkes

The H&B also features strongly in the many books covering the railways of Hull; a couple by Willie Yeadon (of Register fame) are well worth looking at but I suspect that Hull does not interest you as much as the other end of the line.

There is also a large section on the H + B in North Eastern Record Vol 1 published by HMRS and NERA now out of print but copies should be available.
ISBN 0902835 13 0

The West Yorkshire end of the Railway intrests me because its near where I live and have been exploring whats left of the route but am also planning to explore the Hull end as well. I enjoy exploring disused railway lines and have done so since I was a child the Brakenhill light Railway been one of my first explorations as a nine year old boy. So the Hull end also intrests me to. Plan on going to the next meeting of the Hull & Barnsley stock Fund. Does anyone here know where I maybe able to obtain a copy of the Hull & Barnsley Railway Vol 2 at a reasonable price? Also thanks to all replys on this subject.

Not actually to buy but I know the Doncaster Grammar School Railway Museum had a H&BR collection but since the death of its curator I don't know what its current status is. If you are looking for photos of Upton station then Stations UK, Robert Humm at Station House Stamford and indeed ebay might be good places to look.

Parks,

For H&B Volume 2 try www.abebooks.co.uk

http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookD ... volume%2B2

- I don't have any connection with this seller or even know if they are OK, it's just the first match on the site (there are plenty of others).

Volumes 1 & 2 cover some similar ground and aren't as "separate" as the titles suggest. Good hunting!

There was an article on the H&BR in the November 2010 edition of 'Steam Days' magazine, if that's of any interest.

Hello

Try the Hull and Barnsley Stock Fund.

http://www.ajg41.plushost.co.uk/hbrsf/

They both retail books and have an Archivist who should be able to help.
