I AM NEW TO THIS SITE, HAVING JUST FOUND IT AND JOINED.I WORKED ON THE RAILWAYS IN THE 60s, BASED IN AND AROUND THE FERRYHILL CO. DURHAM AREA, AND AM INTERESTED IN THE LAYOUT OF THE VARIOUS BRANCH LINES THAT EXISTED IN THAT AREA, PARTICULARLY THE SPENNYMOOR LINE ,THAT RAN FROM THE MAIN EAST COAST LINE. THE LINE LEFT AT COXHOE JUNCTION, WHERE THERE WAS A SIGNAL BOX, AND RAN OVER THE MAIN LINE VIA A BRIDGE, TO SPENNYMOOR AND ONWARDS. HAS ANYONE GOT PHOTOS OF THIS JUNCTION OR CAN REMEMBER IT? I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION THAT ANYONE MIGHT HAVE. THANKS

I wrote an article on this area and the junction in particular, for the North Eastern Railway Association EXPRESS. The issue was No 135, August 1994 and the next issue contained a copy of the Coxhoe Junction signal box diagram I photographed the area in the late 1960s when there was still a bit to see. Please contact me through the moderator and email me. Let me know what you are seeking and I will be pleased to try and help.

There's a good photo of Coxhoe Junction box on page 82 of "Railway History In Pictures North-East England" by the late Ken Hoole. The picture is credited to Ken himself so if you were to visit the Ken Hoole Study Centre at Darlington North Road Museum you'd be able to view it there.
A number of the block instruments from the box have been seen in auction over the years.
I've a few photos of the Coxhoe branch HERE http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinzac55/3 ... otostream/ and click the right hand thumbnail to see the next photo.
Lastly , if you visit the Durham County Records Office they'll have historical OS maps showing the track layout.
