An interesting LNER related picture has turned up on our facebook site Railways of Berwick and the Eastern Borders i think it deserves to be shared on this site. Can any one add any further information.
The then new Armstrong Whitworth diesel loco with a 2-8-2 wheel arrangement was tested between Newcastle and Tweedmouth in the 1930s
The enclosed picture shows the Experimental Armstrong Whitworth in the up relief siding at Alnmouth signal box. A point to note here is the 35th mile post is sited on the up side when all other mileposts on the Newcastle - Berwick section are sited on the down side. This may have been for operational reasons as the Alnwick branch and more sidings are sited opposite the train.
Is the first coach the NER Dynamometer car.

Hi 52D,
the same photo appears on this site, along with others, as well as a drawing and some info on the (2-6-2) locomotive.
