Lifeboat delivery

Post by StoneRoad »

I have been informed that some of the rowing lifeboats, including RNLI ones, were transported by the Railway companies FOC to nearby railheads,

Does anyone have pictures? or can you point me at publications?

I would really like to have an image of "William Riley of Birmingham and Leamington" being delivered by rail to Whitby,
failing that, one of the same class (34' "Rubie" or "Dungeness" 10 oared type) would be nice.
Saluton. mi estas fervojistino, kaj vi?

The transport of a lifeboat caused an accident at Willington NER due to the OOG load striking a passenger train on an adjoining track. Not to be confused with the accident of 1853 when the driver of a Tynemouth Newcastle train derailed just after Willington Viaduct.
I have seen an accident report and will post it on location.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
