Second Class Carriages
I've been looking at my LNER 150 book and it rarely mentions 2nd class carriages. What types of trains were they used for?

Second class was provided for the "in-transit" immigrant traffic from the ports of Hull and Harwich to Liverpool and Southampton. The immigrants were crossing the country from mainland Europe to the USA and Canada.
Maritime ticketing allowed for three or more classes of passenger, hence the railways catered for three classes for this type of traffic. The mainstream passenger stock provide only first and third class accommodation. Third class was abolished in 1956/7(?) and replaced by second class.
