Out and about on my travels today I see that the planned removal of Ashington Signal Box is well underway - the last signal posts were felled this morning and the new fixed signage signals are in place, so presumably the new scheme is up and running, just awaiting the demolition of the box. It's sad to see it go, even though I never got to see it in its heyday. I'm guessing that puts paid to any chance of a passenger service running to Ashington at any point in the foreseeable future as there's no allowance for reversing any more.
